About Mark St Giles

My credentials

I have been in and around the investment fund management business for 50 years and seen all its comings and goings, successes and failures. My career has spanned managing investments, running asset management businesses of varying sizes, being chairman of trade associations at home and abroad, creating a self regulatory body, consulting and advising governments of developing countries, writing laws and regulations, training. In fact anything “so long as it pays and is legal, Guv!” This tells you more:

In case I have given the impression that I am totally venal, I’ve actually done some non-paying pro-bono stuff too. Like: Hon-Treasurer of the National Association of Citizens’ Advice Bureaux where I worked with the Bank of England to create a Money Advice Service: Non-executive director of National Savings; Chairman of FIMBRA an SRO for financial advisers under the 1986 Financial Services Act, which virtually created the IFA business we see today.

My blogs

All commercial businesses in financial services peddle a mix of truth and illusion. My aim is to try to disentangle the two. You can find my blogs on the menu. There are always current fads and fashions, some of which are transitory and some permanent. The scope and quantity of regulation may or may not protect consumers or just be another compliance box ticking exercise.
